How to avoid resins infusion  #10 (56), 2007

Jonas Scherble,
Thorsten Jahn

Injection pressing provides significant economy for manufacturing large-scale sandwich constructions made of frame (usually composites on the basis of polymer resins) and foam filler. However, such production is restricted with some technological problems: as a result of mechanical processing all foam fillers have opened cells on their surface through which the resin penetrates. This causes undesirable mass increase of parts made of multi-layer materials. The most economically efficient solution of resin infusion problem is smaller size of foam material cells.
