Coperion buys majority stake in strand pelletizer firm
Stuttgart-based compounding extruder company Coperion GmbH has entered the strand pelletizer business by purchasing a majority stake in PELL-TEC Pelletizing Technology GmbH. Based in Niedernberg, Germany, PELL-TEC builds pelletizers with output rates of up to 13,200 pounds an hour. PELL-TEC also makes strand downstream equipment, including water cooling troughs, and vibrating screen equipment for classifying resin pellets. Terms were not disclosed for the deal, which was effective Jan. 1. Coperion and PELL-TEC have worked together on projects for a number of years, but Coperion did not previously have any ownership position in the strand pelletizer company, a Coperion spokeswoman said. Coperion makes underwater pelletizers for very high-volume compounding of polyethylene and polypropylene but has not made strand pelletizers.
