BASF PA used in VW thermostat

Automotive supplier Veritas, based in Gelnhausen, Germany, is moulding thermostat housings for the VW TSI 1.4 engine from BASF polyamide materials.
The upper half of the housing is made of a new, hydrolysis-resistant grade of BASF's Ultramid polyamide 66. The A3WG6 HRX material withstands hot water up to peak temperatures of 130°C, and also sustains high pressures.
The smaller thermostat cover is moulded from the even stiffer Ultramid A3WG7 HRX, since it is subject to especially high stress as a result of its threaded geometry.
