Equipment retrofitting
Sumitomo  (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery feature high performance. Due to reliable design, strength of mechanical units and durability many injection molding machines continues to operate even after several decades of exploitation. In order to company's customer are able to use their machines even further adapting them to modern technical requirements Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery experts offer extensive injection molding machines retrofitting program including exchange of injection and clamping units and control system.
CompactFlash cards have become the standard in storage media. CompactFlash drive applied in modern Sumitomo (SHI) Demag injection molding machines is specially designed for industrial applications and thus especially protected against dust and shocks. As older injection molding machines are equipped with diskette drives the company offers quick and easy retrofitting with CompactFlash drives with Plug and Play technology allows to perform this without injection molding machine power-off.
The existing tool disks can be converted by means of the conversion program included in the supply, and transferred to the CompactCard. One CompactFlash card can store up to 100 previously used diskettes which is equivalent to 640 tool record sets. Therefore you no longer have to change diskettes and the data can be read by any standard PC.
The company also offers conversion kits for injection molding machines including four transducers, position monitors, switches, cables, mounting components, and software. The conversion can significantly reduce the downtime of your machine. Energy saving
When developing injection molding machines Sumitomo  (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery focuses on maximal energy efficiency. In order to reduce energy losses company's injection molding machines are equipped with
 – knuckle-joint system,
 – linear guides;
 – drives with the highest efficiency class.
Knuckle-joint systems require only few amount of oil and thus they do not require much energy for moving of moveable plates. Furthermore they do not consume energy for clamping force maintaining. Therefore knuckle-joint mechanism ensures 50% energy saving for large machines and 30% for smaller ones.
Adequate application of modern linear guides particularly in clamping unit area ensures more dynamic mold movements as well as energy savings due to lower friction.
Hydraulic machines are equipped with DFEE electrical adjustments pumps combined with very efficient drives as a standard option. This leads to considerable energy savings compared to conventional systems. Sumitomo  (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery produces direct electrical drives with no gear reducing efficiency. Furthermore the company represents one of two injection molding machine manufacturers in the world which specialize in drive technology for highly effective machines. Direct electrical drives feature high efficiency as they have no gear thus reducing friction and losses.
As early as in 90s when El-Exis, the first hybrid machine was launched, the company executed the principle of energy recovery. The technology is based on the fact that when several synchronous drives with conversion transducer are applied, then braking energy of a single drive in intermediate transducers circuit can be transmitted to another drive. Therefore the energy is not converted into heat and not wasted to environment but applied directly within production process. When clamping unit is braking, there is an opportunity to recover motional energy which can be used for energy-consuming plasticizing stage. The concept of energy recover is executed in standard versions of hybrid El-Exis and all-electric IntElect machines.
