gwk's energy-saving solutions  #12 (94), 2010

At the K-2010 show Germany-based gwk (Gesellschaft Waerme Kaeltetechnik) GmbH was focused on energy savings and reducing operating costs unveiling the latest developments in temperature controllers, water cooling and centralized cooling systems.

As a supplier for the whole temperature control process from cooling plants via heating process to water treatment, gwk is a competent and innovative supplier for customers who need high-quality cooling and heating technology products. Also in the area of close to cavity heating of mould inserts and mould cleaning, gwk supports its customers for many years.
Since its foundation in 1967 gwk took part in the K exhibition for many times. A lot of new developments and innovations in plastics technology were presented over the years. This year the company presented its products on a new - and in comparison to previous years - enormously enlarged stand.
In the focus of customer’s attraction were solutions to save energy costs and to optimize applications in plastic processing at the same time as this more and more a burning issue. For example by means of the new developed dynamic temperature control system gwk showed the production of scratch-proofed coatings of PMMA parts. Here the dynamic temperature control is responsible for the initiation of the chemical reaction. By this, a reasonable integration of an expensive and until today succeeding finishing process is possible.
At its stand gwk unveiled the energetic and high-quality foaming process that is also based on the cyclic dynamic temperature control in the mould. For this purpose gwk developed a 200°C version of the teco vario system, consisting of a two-circuit hot water temperature controller and a close-to-cavity energy storage and switching unit subordinated to a central control system that communicates with the machine’s control system.
In addition to the dynamic cavity temperature control with fluid media, gwk also works on temperature control systems with gaseous media. A demonstrator presents the development status of a variotherm CO2 -temperature control system, that for the first time is heating and cooling with CO2 with minor energetic expenditures.
The prevention of weld-lines on high gloss surfaces by means of the gwk integrat evolution temperature control unit as well as scratch-proofed surfaces in one step were another highlight on corporate stand.
Also in the area of cooling technology, new intelligent gwk composite systems reduce the energy costs as well as the CO2-consumption. This means that temperature controllers and water chillers are operated in a neatly aligned energy composite system.
Furthermore, new energy-saving modules like the gwk hermeticool system are efficient cost-cutters, too, as they use the differences of night and day temperatures as well as those of the seasons in order to produce cold water for production facilities in a cost-effective manner. The new efficient drives are capable to operate under very low rotation speeds. Various units of the new gwk hermeticool system allow to decrease energy consumption by up to 75 percent compared to conventional systems.
As the company also demonstrated its innovations by means of live demonstrations the visitors were impressed and gave a positive feedback.
Along with everyday intensive communication with customers, speaking at press conferences and seminars, a highlight of this year’s K exhibition was an invitation for company's customers for an evening to relax at corporate stand and to recover energy with excellent food, drinks and jazz music.
To get an impression of company's headquarters in Kierspe, gwk organized a bus transfer for mainly customers from foreign countries, to show them its production facilities.
In Russia gwk is represented by its agency Formet PM in Nizhny Novgorod. gwk's Russian customers are represented by enterprises engaged in every sector of plastics processing: Bitplast, Docke Extrusion, Polytron and Pipe Life in Moscow region, local Magna plants in Saint-Petersburg and Novgorod, Megaplast, Lada-List and LuxStar in Togliatti, JSC Techstroy in Kazanm Upaks-Unity in Perm, Korrex in Ekaterinburg and others. Complete gwk's product portfolio will be presented at Interplastica-2011 trade show.
