Michael Okoroafor, vice president for packaging R&D and innovation at H.J. Heinz Co., will discuss the company’s rationale for using bio-based PET resin at the BioPlastek 2011 forum in New York.
Pittsburgh-based Heinz believes that consumers want products that are both innovative and that protect the environment. The challenge is to develop products with this public sentiment in mind even though the business case is not as clear cut as building product differentiation or driving operational efficiencies. “The sustainability paradigm has provided us with a new holistic way of looking at products, services, consumers and the value chain in ways that not only foster tremendous innovation but also give competitive edge,” he said in a news release. Okoroafor’s keynote presentation is titled “Leveraging Creative Bio-based Packaging to Drive Brand Differentiation.” The forum will include more than 40 other presentations from the bioplastics value chain.
