BPI says 2011 results a shade down on 2010

British Polythene Industries (BPI) claims its results for 2011 will be at the top end of market expectations, on the back of a good performance from its European business.
BPI said: “Despite this difficult trading environment, we [are also benefitting] from the structural changes effected in recent years in the UK.” However, the company said that it expects total volumes for 2011 to be marginally below 2010 – the result of “subdued demand from many industrial customers”.
“Raw material costs continue to slowly soften, no doubt assisted by poor demand and an increase in the volumes of imported polymer from new sources in the Middle East,” added the company.
